On Wednesday 1st February, the joint heads of French Society Cameron Makin and Oliver Donaldson gave a captivating yet accessible presentation on how to be initiated into French literature. They both went through the fundamental and iconic French writers, from Molière to Albert Camus, and explained their extensive works and distinct styles in only 3 slides per writer. The ‘Chef oeuvres’ of each writer, as well as the context in which they wrote, was presented in a pleasantly informative style. Included in the presentation were recommended books to read for those who wish to extend their passion for French to a super-curricular standard. Whether you are an expert in the field or completely new to the topic, it was a remarkably useful lecture.
