Oscar Perry has been coaching swimming to a 15 year-old boy (a member of the Abingdon Dolphins Swimming Club) with learning difficulties for over two and a half years now, every Wednesday night in the Radley College swimming pool.
Because his pupil Leo, had made such great progress, Oscar decided to create a sponsored event and swim five kilometres with Leo, as a team, raising money for the Marie Curie Charity.
At the Abingdon Dolphins Swimming Club, who train at Radley College, the other swimmers became interested and were keen to participate too, so the event became a much bigger one for Oscar to organise.
Twenty-eight swimmers and eight teams was the result. On Thursday 16th April, from 7pm-9pm, a total distance of 37 kilometres was swum by these teams in the College pool. The local newspaper, the 'Oxford Mail' arrived, took photos and wrote an article for its news publication.
The event was a great success and hopefully the target of £500 raised will have been exceeded.
