On Wednesday May 17th, Paul Register, otherwise known as the ‘Bloke of Steel’, gave a talk in the Blue Room about the evolution of comic books over the years. He began with a brief background about his childhood love for the X-Men comics, and a quick look at caveman drawing dating back to 35,000 years ago, pointing out how humans have been telling stories with drawings for a very long time.
He then proceeded to talk about the ways in which comics had changed over the years, specifically Batman comics. Having looked at comic book covers and comic book panels over the years, it was interesting to see the transition from a very simplistic and colourful art style to one that is much darker and ‘artistic’. It was a very enjoyable talk.
