Bursary

Andrew Ashton

Bursar

AA.Ashton@radley.org.uk

After Newcastle Royal Grammar School, I studied chemistry at Oxford. I then moved into the banking sector where I spent many enjoyable years in a variety of roles. Looking for a new challenge, I was appointed Bursar in September 2008 and am responsible for overseeing the financial and operational aspects of the College and the management of the non-teaching staff. There is never a dull day.

I am married to Jillian and we have a young son, Philip. In the occasional spare time I can find, I enjoy playing real tennis (in the College’s excellent sports centre) as well as running.

David Anderson

Estates Bursar

DYA.Anderson@radley.org.uk

I studied at the University of West of England and obtained a degree in quantity surveying in 1994, qualifying as a chartered surveyor in 1995. I worked in the private sector for 20 years and in 2005 became a partner with Ridge in Oxford, joining Radley in October 2008. I am responsible for all building development, maintenance, grounds and gardens. One of our best accomplishments was the redevelopment of the Old Gym, where we now have an outstanding new building, Clock Tower Court.

I am married with two young children and I would like to be better at real tennis and golf.

Sarah Ballard

Head of Human Resources

Sarah.Ballard@radley.org.uk

After 20 years working for an international firm of chartered accountants, I decided to return to studying and gained a degree in human resource management. I have worked in HR since 2000 and joined Radley in 2004. With a small team working with me, we are responsible for all aspects of employment for more than 400 teaching and non-teaching staff. Nobody can say this job doesn’t bring new experiences.

I am a keen scuba diver and have recently dived in the UK, Maldives and the Red Sea; and am looking forward to my next trip which is to the Galapagos Islands.

Debbie Blackmore

Accounts / Fees Manager

DAB.Blackmore@radley.org.uk

I joined Radley in 1986 after working for a number of years at a temping agency. I am the Fees Manager and responsible for the running of the Accounts office which comprises six people. I am very passionate about football: in fact I am the chairman of a local football club in Abingdon. This is where I spend most of my free time, not playing but watching football. Luckily for me my husband is very passionate about football as well. I have a daughter, two step-children, five grandchildren and two large dogs.

Pam Dickens

Catering Manager

PJD.Dickens@radley.org.uk

I have been the General Manager in the Catering department at Radley since 2006. I started my career in large hotels and restaurants gaining 20 years’ experience in this sector. In 2000, I moved into contract catering, managing the catering and hospitality for a London University, then to the business and industry sector for a multinational agrochemical company. Great food that is fresh, nutritional and home-cooked is at the heart of our service. We aim to educate the boys about new and different food, introducing interesting new recipes, yet always mindful of retaining the traditions that Radley is renowned for.

Adam King

Head GroundsMan

AJK.King@radley.org.uk

Responsible for all the school grounds and gardens and assisted by 18 staff members, we strive to achieve the best possible playing surfaces for the boys to enjoy their sport: from Bigside cricket and rugby to the new pitches further away from the school. Our greens staff work hard to produce a course for all to enjoy and the gardeners enhance the experience with the fantastic area of planting and gardens for boys, staff and visitors alike.

Personally I have never had a dull day in all my years at Radley and still find every day to be a fresh challenge.

Les Newell

Sports Centre Manager

LPN.Newell@radley.org.uk

I started at Radley in November 2007, having managed leisure facilities for almost 10 years, Radley is by far the most enjoyable and rewarding place that I have had the opportunity to work.

As well as managing the Sports Centre, I coach football, swimming, triathlon and cross country. It has been great to be involved with coaching and to see how the boys progress throughout their time at Radley.

At school, my main sport was athletics and in my first year at Radley, I was asked to pace a boy to the school 1500m record. Despite not making it to the last lap, it re-ignited my love for athletics and I have since gone on to become national M35 1500m champion. I also broke that school record, aged 39.
