Celebrating Chinese New Year

Celebrating Chinese New Year

During the evening on Tuesday 6th February, primary and secondary schools across Oxfordshire and the South East took to the stage to celebrate Chinese New Year and the official opening of the new Swire Chinese Language Centre – Oxford (SCLCO).

The event opened with a magnificent Chinese Lion dance, which offered an extremely colourful display in the Theatre, together with performances from 85 children who joined the celebrations from a range of schools, including Oxford High School, Rush Common School, Radley Primary, Didcot Girls and Desborough College. The visiting Headteachers gave a series of short speeches, including Dr. Phillip Hills (Headteacher of Oxford High School), Mrs. Jacquie Stevenson (Headteacher of Rush Common School), Mrs. Grace Slater (Headteacher of Radley Primary School), Mrs. Rachael Warwick (Executive Headteacher of Ridgeway Education Trust) and Mr. Paul Frazer (Headteacher of Desborough College).

The Chinese-themed canapé and drinks reception went down very well and the event concluded with a large Chinese New Year firework display in the Radley grounds.
