Design Engineering prepares students to participate in their rapidly changing technological world.
The Design Engineering has five members of staff and three technicians, and is housed in the Sewell centre alongside the Art department in a purpose built open plan workshop. The recent renaming of the department has come about to reflect the ever closer links with science and maths within the subject.
Design Engineering is studied by all pupils in the Shell year and has four periods per cycle. Pupils follow a broad, balanced course giving them an opportunity to explore a range of ‘design and make’ activities, which encourage them to develop skills and knowledge - equipping them to solve real life problems and make use of the equipment and facilities on offer.
In the Remove and Fifth form, pupils can continue their studies in the Design Engineering department, by opting to take a GCSE in Design & Technology. This also provides a natural progression to the A level course.
