It's not often that you encounter a production quite like this one by the theatre company Otis Dotter. It was a stripped down version of a seminal German play “Emilia Galotti” that helped to highlight the beauty and subtlety of Lessing's masterpiece.
There was not a point during the play when I did not feeling engaged nor interested. Particularly interesting was the ability of Countess Orsina to convey her transformation from powerless to all powerful, because she had worked out the scheme of the Prince.
Emilia Galotti is not a play that is as well-known as say Hamlet, however I can wholeheartedly recommend this play and this production to anyone with a spare few hours in London this week.
