English A level Conference, London: Report by Will Barker, D Social 6.1
On the 23rd November a group of 6th form English A-level students attended the "Emagazine Literature Conference" in London. We were spoken to by many highly-regarded literary academics, such as Dr. Eric Langley of UCL and Professor John Mullan, on a variety of topics: for example "Shakespeare's Moral Anxieties and Mortality itself", as well as watching a panel discussion which offered up many useful Novel recommendations.
Later on, we were also given a brilliant insight by Sarah Crown into the best ways to analyse poetry, the importance of essays and close criticism of literature; something which forms a fundamental part of the A-level syllabus. To end the day, actor Simon Bubb spoke about "Comedy in Theatre" and gave his perspective on Shakespearean and contemporary Drama, while explaining the importance of humour in theatrical works.
