Fitness Facts

Health Facts:

  • Exercising regularly is critical to maintaining overall health and fitness
  • People who participate in resistance training are more likely to be muscular, have a healthy body composition, be aerobically fit and have good general health - all features known to extend lifespan (NewScientist, Issue 2742, January 2010)
  • It is impossible to turn fat into muscle. They are two very different types of body tissue. However, through exercise and diet you can change/alter your body composition (the ratio of muscle : fat)

To achieve and maintain a basic level of fitness and health, we need to:

  • Complete at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day
  • It should include a combination of “Moderate-Intensity Aerobic Activity” and “Vigorous-Intensity Anaerobic Activity”
  •  On three days a week, these activities should involve muscle-strengthening and bone-strengthening activities, such as push-ups, gymnastics, jogging, running and jumping
