The vast majority of the Senior squad were racing at Fours' Head yesterday in some cold conditions. The four Radley crews entered produced some encouraging performances across the board. The J4x of Matt Gissen, Isaac Turner, Henry Hawkins and Will Nelson, were the first crew down the course, and they had a much more committed row than at Henley Sculls the week before, and finished in 41st place out of 52 entries, in a time of 20 minutes 39 seconds.
Our three coxed fours had been roughly matched by coaches, and this proved to be extremely useful throughout the weeks training building up to the race, with good competition amongst the crews. It was the crew of Rory Gearing, Archie McChesney, Felix Rawlinson, Will a'Brassard and cox Matt Dawson, who took the honours as the top Radley crew on the day, and finished in 2nd place overall in the J4+ category, in a time of 20 minutes 11 seconds.
It was extremely pleasing to see the two other coxed fours in relatively close proximity, finishing in 6th (Ned Rae Smith, Max Senior, Luke Miles, Felix Reynish and cox Ted Williams) and 9th (James Innes-Ker, Theo Metcalf, Max Dunlap, Max Cragoe and cox Hazel Gearing) respectively.
Overall, a good day out for the Boat Club, with the focus now turning to some solid training in the lead up to Christmas, and GB Trials this coming weekend for six of our squad. A big thank you to the parents who could make it to support on the day, braving the very cold wind!
