On the evening of October 29th the French Declamations competition was held in the Modern Languages Department. It was a competition where boys from Shell to 6th form took part in learning and then reciting a poem of their choice. The French assistants were kind enough to adjudicate the competition and appoint a winner for each year group based primarily on diction, rhythm, accent and pronunciation.
It was an evening with a relaxed environment and talent was shown throughout the year groups. The choice of poetry was varied from Baudelaire to the rapper M.C. Solaar. It was an evening thoroughly enjoyed by all with comedic performances and some more emotive and serious poetry.
The winners are listed below:
Shell - George Wallis- Demain dès l’aube by Victor Hugo
Remove - Jamie Walker- Mouvement by Arthur Rimbaud and Xavier Coughlan- Arkansas by M.C. Solaar
Fifth - Joe Trafford (pictured above) - Extrait de L’Avare by Molière
6.1- Oliver Donaldson – Le Chêne et le Roseau by Jean de la Fontaine
