On Friday 1st July, the College was looking resplendent for Gaudy. The marquees looked magnificent next to the pitches, the cricket played on the square and the Radley College Pipers serenaded the boys from their Socials to the pavilion where everyone gathered to hear addresses by the Warden and Senior Prefect.
During the day, parents were treated to a number of exhibitions around the College. The Sewell Centre Gallery displayed the Art Department’s Best of Year Show, the Design and Technology Workshop hosted boys’ exam pieces in their Design Show. The Biology Department’s College Animals were also on display in Queen’s Court. Additionally, the Shell’s Independent Learning Projects were displayed in the Coffee Shop.
There was an early start for some as breakfast for Leavers and their parents was held in Hall, quickly followed by Prize Giving in the Theatre. The Chapel then hosted the Leavers' service to remember their time at Radley and wish everyone well for the future.
After the convivial Tutors' parties the Radley College Pipers visited each Social to call on everyone and leading them to hear the addresses by the Warden and Senior Prefect.
Many of the picnics were no doubt accompanied by bottles of chilled Radley champagne available to buy near the marquee and this year parents were also able to purchase a unique version of Tyrrells ‘Radley Social’ crisps, designed by Charlie Milner, J Social, 6.1, proceeds of which will go to East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice.
With tea served in the marquee from 3pm, cakes were available to buy to raise money for Gehandu School in Tanzania. Here, also, was the ‘Charities Gazebo’ featuring details of fundraising activities by Radleians over the summer holiday as well as further information about the ‘12 Labours of Radley’ on September 18th.
A parade by Radley College Beagles, followed by leavers' farewells to Dons concluded the events of the day by the marquee.
