The application process for the 2018 trip to Gehandu, Tanzania is currently open (5th Formers deadline for Forms is Friday 23 June; if you missed this opportunity please contact MRJ asap). Radley has an established partnership with Gehandu Secondary School in Mbulu and the trip offers Sixth Form Radleians a rare opportunity to experience African life as student teachers in a massively under-resourced rural school.
Adam Hargreaves (OR 2016), who has been working at Gehandu Secondary School during May 2017 as part of his Gap Year, gives an overview of his experience below:
"Whilst at Gehandu Secondary School I was teaching 6 different sets, in total 250 students. I taught Chemistry and Maths and helped with sport and with group tuition during prep time for the boarders. It was great to be able to help the students improve their English by spending meal times with them and also after classes. I also helped to teach the teachers how to use a computer and worked with them to take another step to abolish corporal punishment!"
