On the 9th November, the Fifth and 6.1 German sets went to the cinema to watch a showing of the movie ‘Lola rennt’ in a small cinema in Oxford, as part of the 'Oxford Brookes Film Journalism Week'. We hadn't been told anything about the film before it started but we had high expectations.
Before the film started we had an introduction from a journalist from the Guardian who spoke a little about 'the string theory' and the possibility of there being parallel universes. We were not sure what relevance this had to the film, however it became apparent as the film went on. The movie was about a man and woman attempting to get their hands on a bag of money which they had lost, however unlike any movie we had seen, this one went through three possible scenarios of the same event, the last of which being successful. The three possible scenarios mirrored the potential parallel universes, and how an event could be happening in multiple universes however they each unfold in a different manner.
We all thought it was a very interesting film and it provoked lots of discussion afterwards. Overall it was a very enjoyable evening, capped off with some ice-cream in a nearby ice-cream shop.
