The 1st VIII faced Boston High School in the second round of the Princess Elizabeth Challenge at Henley yesterday. The Boston crew were a bit of an unknown quantity so the crew weren't sure what to expect, but last year's Boston crew had knocked out the highly fancied Canadian Champions from Shawnigan Lake at Henley, so we knew that today's race would not be easy.
The Radley VIII managed to get a narrow lead in the first 500 metres, but Boston High held on with determination and would not let Radley settle into a more comfortable rhythm. However the crew held their nerve in the strong headwind conditions and managed to stay half a length up for most of the race. Boston had a strong push for the finish line, but the crew held them off to win by two thirds of a length.
The support for the crew yesterday was staggering and they would like to pass on their thanks to all the dons, parents, boys and ORs who turned out in huge numbers to cheer the crew on.
Today the crew will face Melbourne Grammar School at 3:20pm in the quarter-finals.
