An extraordinary set of hockey results on the weekend saw a number of Radley teams crowned champions of their respective Independent Schools Hockey Leagues.
A frustrating 1-1 draw for the 1st XI against Wellington meant they had to rely on results elsewhere and Abingdon duly obliged with a victory over Bradfield. This meant that three teams, Radley, Bradfield and Abingdon, all finished on the same number of points and goal difference would decide the winner. Radley and Bradfield had the same goal difference so it then came down to goals scored which meant the U18A title went to Radley by the narrowest of margins and the coveted Charlie Barker trophy returns home.
The second XI needed a bonus point win to secure the U18B league and this was achieved with an impressive 3-0 win over Wellington. The Colts 1 team won the U16A league comfortably by virtue of their 100% record in the competition. Their 5-2 win over Wellington ensured that they also finished the season unbeaten.
The most exciting match of the day was the showdown between our Midgets 1 and Wellington. This was a top of the table clash to decide the title and a hard fought 1-0 victory saw our Midgets 1 crowned champions.
Midgets 2 also needed to beat Wellington to win the U14B league and they did just that with an impressive 2-1 victory. Finally, Midgets 5 also won their league courtesy of a 5-1 win over Wellington.
There were some near misses as well: The 3rd XI, Colts 2, J Colts 2, J Colts 3 and Midgets 4 all finished a very creditable second in their respective leagues.
A huge congratulations to all of the players and coaches who have worked so hard this season.
