On the evening of Thursday the 25th January, the annual Inter-Social ergo competition was held in the Barker Gym. Drawing a crowd of approximately 250 people, including the 100 athletes. It is disputably the biggest rowing event of the calendar year. The event uses 2 rowers per social, per year group, a rower and non rower. The aim is to row as many meters as possible in one minute, the scores are then added up, and the social with the most metres wins.
After 6 years of F social dominating the competition, many socials were keen to put an end to the fierce tyranny of F social reign. The atmosphere began to transcend into an organised chaos of thumping rock music, courtesy of our boatman Andy, and adrenaline with a side of lactic acid.
K social took victory this year, with the largest performances coming from Luke Miles and Paddy Hayes. It was a great evening for all and hopefully inspired some dry bobs to give rowing a chance. The event ran incredibly smoothly due to the proficient organisation by Mr Townsend, Mr Gearing, Andy Thomas and Harry Lyons, a huge thanks goes to all of them, and a well done to all the athletes who took part.
