Jeanette Barnes Talk
On the afternoon on Wednesday May 4th in the Art Department,
artist Jeanette Barnes, a contemporary of Head of Art IPE’s at the Royal Academy,
gave a fascinating talk on her exquisite sketches and the work of other well-known
artists, like Frank Auerbach.
Jeanette was here at Radley to begin working on drawings of
the interior of Chapel. She has also drawn buildings like St Paul’s, the Shard,
the Gherkin, the Birds’ Nest in Beijing, the London Olympic Stadium and Grand
Central Station; she explained some of her aims in capturing these buildings.
She stressed the importance of “scale” and the ways in which artists “allowed”
the viewer into their paintings.
Jeanette will be exhibiting her work in the Sewell Centre
Gallery in October – when her finished drawing of Chapel will be unveiled.
