On 30th September, the Sewell Centre Gallery will open its new exhibition featuring the work of Judith Ernsting. Commenting on her exhibition entitled ‘Landscapes’, Judith said:
"Working from an observational drawing as inspiration I respond to the juxtaposition of shapes and forms and manipulate the textures and surfaces of the materials chosen. The work may change many times before being resolved. I use paint, pastels and collage, sometimes all together to achieve the vitality I want. I never know at the outset where each piece will take me."
Judith studied painting at Manchester College of Art in the sixties, followed by a scholarship to the Academy of Fine Art, Istanbul.
In addition to her own work she has brought up her family and taught, notably for 27 years as Head of Art at Summer Fields, Oxford, where countless generations of boys knew her as Mrs Lane. Latterly she took a post as Head of Art at Pinewood School, Wiltshire. Since retiring in 2012 she has returned to a full time emphasis on painting. She lives and works in Oxford.
Many works are available as limited edition giclée prints. These are very high quality reproductions made on the latest generation of professional ink-jet printers, using special long-life inks and quality art papers.
