Careers Update The process of linking the Radley Careers department more closely with the Radleian Society is underway. Paul Gamble as don in charge of Careers and Richard Greed as don in charge of Work Experience will be spreading the word within the School of the huge benefits that our great new database can bring to current Radleians and ORs of any age. The "Choices Conference" will take place on Thursday 14 June 2001 and a combined approach will be made by Paul Gamble and Andrew Holmes to assemble a wide range of ORs and parents to talk about possible careers and the skills required. So great has been your response that we will clearly not be able to take up all of your offers of help immediately, even though we will be expanding the range of choices covered and aiming to have more than one person to talk about each area. For boys looking for work experience, this will be the first year that the Radleian Society can offer to put boys into contact with ORs and parents who have offered help. It will be down to the boys to make their own use of this opportunity. No doubt lessons will be learned in the first year as to how best to manage this but there is huge potential benefit here for all involved. We are starting to take calls from ORs looking for ideas and introductions. Not many at the moment, but we have been pleased by the interest and the growing awareness that the Radleian Society can come up with some helpful ideas and introductions. Getting a jobs page onto the Radley College website is very much on the agenda, although we are not there yet. We see the opportunity to advertise vacation jobs- and job seekers- as the initial target but there is clearly room to take this much further when we are up and running. Paul Gamble Andrew Holmes |
