Welcome to David and Hélène Edwards

Although David Edwards only came to Radley in 1997 he has had plenty of experience of school life. He himself was a pupil at Lancing in the 70s. After school he had two years seeing the world before going up to Durham University to read English and to take part in masses of drama. From early on he was particularly interested in musicals, and treasures a cameo part that he took announcing train arrivals in La Vie Parisienne. After Finals he did a post-graduate Drama Course before taking up a position at Christ's Hospital where he stayed until 1991.

During this time he married Hélène, a French Canadian, and together they went in 1991 to Uppingham where David had been appointed Head of Drama. Within two years he was a housemaster appointed to run a VIth form boys' house. Halfway through his first year with the house, the powers-that-be decided to turn it forthwith into a girls' sixth form house! Never one to refuse a challenge, David took this on, a job that he held till he left for Radley.

Here he has had numerous successes on the drama front: major productions including The Madness of King George, Amadeus and Nicholas Nickleby. With junior actors he produced The Scarlet Pimpernel and more recently he returned to his first love, musicals, with Jesus Christ Superstar. This term the Drama Week saw three of his productions, including a very moving interpretation of One flew over the cuckoo's nest.

David and Hélène have three children, Natasha, Philippe and Stephanie. We wish all the family the very best for their time in H Social.
