Thank you from Sue Van Oss A presentation was made during Radley Day 2001 to Sue Van Oss, Assistant Secretary of the Radleian Society, who retired in October. October 2001
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all of you who donated so very generously to my leaving present. It was a wonderful surprise and I felt quite overwhelmed by the size of the cheque I was handed. The money has enabled me to renew our very run-down and shabby conservatory and we now have a larger, brighter and warmer one instead. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all those with whom I have worked for all their kindness, support and good humour. Working for Radley has been an enormous pleasure throughout my 25 years there. I began by being a part of the Appeal Team in the late seventies and early eighties along with Dennis and Diana Silk, Tony Money and Micky and Alison Jones. It was a marvellous opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones. In the first two years I was asked to type the Year Book in its entirety at least twice while we were preparing for the Appeal. Ever since then the names have been imprinted on my memory and this has been very helpful in fulfilling my daily task of searching through the newspapers for news of ORs. My time working for the Society has been equally enjoyable, helping to organise events, searching for those with whom we had lost touch, and, in later years, organising the O.R. Dinner and compiling the O.R. Intelligence for The Radleian and latterly for The Old Radleian. Forty-nine years of my life have been spent at Radley but it is now time to break the ties and enjoy my life down in Somerset with Peter in our new home. We do hope that any old friends who find themselves in the Wincanton/Sherborne area will come and see us. We are only two minutes off the A303 and are a very convenient coffee or lunch stop on the way to the West Country! Yours sincerely, Sue Van Oss |
