Laurence Whitmarsh Hudson On 24.7.2001 He was Succentor at Radley from 1931 to 1938. After Radley he taught in a number of schools before moving to Cheltenham in 1951 where he worked, freelance, as an organist and orchestral conductor. He founded and developed the Laurence Hudson String Orchestra which played in Cheltenham and further afield and gave live broadcasts from the Pebble Mill studios in Birmingham. In 1966 the orchestra combined with another group to form the Cheltenham Chamber Orchestra, directed by Laurence Hudson until 1987. Throughout these years he served as president or chairman on the governing bodies of numerous organisations including the Cheltenham International Music Festival. His son was at Radley. |
