The ability to be confident and competent in the use of handwriting is a fundamental skill linked to neurological development. As such, the acquisition of competence in handwriting is an educational entitlement.

All boys at Radley are encouraged to use and to develop a cursive script handwriting style.

Any boy who has difficulty with legibility, neatness or pace of handwriting is referred to the Learning Support Department. A remedial handwriting programme is then provided, and detailed individual guidance given on such matters as pen grip and posture.

The Use of a Computer Keyboard for the Production of Written Work

Boys at Radley widely use computers to produce a range and variety of work. Coursework in many subjects is produced via computer.

Routine classwork and preps may be produced either via computer or via handwriting, according to the type of work and the specific context. All Radleians are taught to be competent in the use both of handwriting and computer, as circumstances require.

Common Entrance and Writing

Common Entrance candidates for Radley are expected to produce their examination scripts via handwriting unless there are exceptional circumstances.
