From the laziness that is contented with half truth,
From the arrogance that thinks it knows all truth,

Crossing the road to lessons

I am glad that you are interested in sending your son to Radley.
When people think about Radley they may think of the excellent academic results, magnificent facilities, the strong demand for places but, as the short prayer above indicates, the most important things in education are immeasurable. Radley is concerned with character, seeking to develop qualities of tolerance, inquisitiveness, perseverance, humility and a sense of the spiritual in our lives.William Sewell founded the school to be different, to have a concern with ‘... the aesthetic, good manners and kindness ....’; this continues to guide us.

Continuity of purpose is a strength of the school, but Radley has embraced change. We offer a tremendous range of opportunities and encourage boys to develop interests that will be a source of fulfilment for the rest of their lives. Through a development of these interests and the hard work that creates excellence we hope that your son will grow in confidence and self-esteem and seek to contribute to the needs of those around him.

Radley is a boarding school, not a school with boarding. Experience has shown us that the care and extra assistance that boarding offers benefits boys’ academic, cultural and sporting development. We believe that boarding helps to strengthen a sense of responsibility, decency and kindness through life in a happy community and I hope that this is an experience your son will enjoy at some time in the future.
