Radcliffe Meteorological Station Trip

Radcliffe Meteorological Station Trip

A group of hardy Radley geographers braved sub-zero temperatures to visit one of the UK's meteorological jewels, the Radcliffe Weather Station on 30th November. The station, situated in the garden of Green College, possesses the longest series of temperature and rainfall records for one site in Britain, beginning in 1815.

We were treated to a detailed and vivid history of the site whilst also gaining an understanding on how this data is collected by the site's dedicated team (who take readings at 9 am every day) and the records importance as concern about climate change grows.

We were extremely grateful to Oxford University Geography Department for their hospitality and to IJA for organising the trip.
