Religious Studies

The Religious Studies department is housed in modern classrooms in the David Rae Smith building. The Chaplains are the two fulltime members of the department, two other dons assist with the delivery of core Religious Studies in the Shells, Removes and Vths.

For Shells, Removes and Vths there is one compulsory period of ‘General Religious Studies’ each cycle.
Religious Studies is also offered as a GCSE option in the Remove and Vth’s. The course is delivered by the two full time members of the department usually taught in two parallel sets. Currently the GCSE course follows the AQA Specification A .Two units are studied.  Unit 1 Christianity and Unit 2: Christian Ethics.
A Level Religious Studies is an option for boys in the VIth Form.  At A level the focus is on the academic study of Theology from textual, historical, philosophical and contextual perspectives following units from the AQA syllabus. In recent years several boys have gone onto read Theology as an undergraduate degree at Oxford, Durham and other established Universities.
