The end of the summer holidays brought a fantastic focus with a targetted training camp for the first and second XV squads in Italy. We hit the ground running after flying into Venice with a conditioning session. The camp was situated outside of Treviso and offered a plethora of first class training facilities.
During the camp we had bespoke and professional coaches who were putting us through our paces. Nick Wood and Mr Gaunt gave us an insight to a professional rugby career showing us the skills they had learnt. The forwards had the expertise of Mr wood who was the first Gloucester player to feature on 200 occasions in the Premiership and the backs had Mr Gaunt, coach for the Oxford Varsity backline. This was already on top of the three brilliant coaching Dons; Mr Greed, Mr Lawson and Mr Dalrymple.
At the end of the week the team started to bond and this was reflected on the pitch as we started to play some expansive rugby. The squad was fortunate enough to go to Venice for a cultural break. It was a brilliant way to get some rest after such an intense training regime. We faced two resilient sides in our final game. Both teams played some brilliant rugby and we narrowly lost both matches but it was clear that we were beginning to understand the patterns of play we were trying to achieve.
The tour will stand us in great shape for the season to come and we would like to thank all the members of staff for their time and effort in making the trip so enjoyable.
