Lloyd Figgins talk on safety when travelling abroad:

As usual at Radley during APT on Wednesdays, the Coffee Shop was full of people on the afternoon of June 8th to listen to a talk by Lloyd Figgins on his book and life, which is called ‘Looking for Lemons’. This talk tells us and warns us about the issue with regards to travelling abroad.

We heard some simply inspirational, as well as funny and scary stories: such as the grenade attack in Syria or Lloyd Figgins’ kidnapping that took place in Colombia with his friend who is called ‘Maverick’, despite not being Tom Cruise and not being in ‘Top Gun’. Anyway, he told the techniques he used when it comes to getting yourself out of these situations, such as starting conversation with the kidnappers; also if you are going to run away, you should run away as soon as possible.

He told us great ways to use things, such as wrapping gaffe tape around one’s credit card and the technique one should use when it comes to being taped up at the hands by a cable tie. Lloyd Figgins then answered questions at the end, speaking about his most dangerous and scary moments, as well as the important and relevant issue of social media and the issue that can occur when one posts photos abroad. He said this is a ‘kidnappers’ dream’, as it shows you aren’t in your house and said that you should always post photos when you return from your holiday.

Finally, thank you to Lloyd for taking up his time to speak at Radley; I would encourage you all to purchase his book, ‘Looking for Lemons.’
