Actor, writer and Director, Ben Crystal, author of
‘Shakespeare on Toast’, gave a lively Lecture and Workshop to all Removes and
Fifths, together with students from Didcot Girls’ School, during Academic
Priority Time, on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 12th in the
Ben took as his theme the importance of setting Shakespeare
in Context: highlighting some of the common beliefs of Shakespeare’s time - for
example, the Age’s almost universal belief in Witchcraft. As he explained, “Shakespeare
makes a lot more sense when you put him back in context”.
He went on to discuss the importance of ‘Original Practice’:
using original scripts, pronunciation and music. His idea sparked lots of
audience participation, questions and discussion. This Event was organised by Librarian, Anne Muhlberg, pictured with Ben below.
