On Tuesday 15th September, a coach
full of about 30 Shells arrived at Farmoor Reservoir to take part in the Radley
Shell Sailing Day. This meant that a string of nearly 20 boats were all lined
up to be taken up to the far end of the reservoir and shown a course to sail
There was a large range of ability
and skill: from Shells who have sailed up to some of the helpers’ skill levels,
to some who had never even seen a sailing boat at all.
Even though it was nice weather,
most of the Shells were very wet from capsizing; but thanks to the helpful
assistant instructors who came to their aid, everything was back to normal.
With a series of exercises, from
sailing around a course to follow-the-leader, the whole day was a great success
and, overall, there were smiles all round.
