The Henley classic swim is not for the faint-hearted. The prestigious course was unrecognisable in the early hours of the morning. Having completed half of the challenge getting into our wet suits we received an upbeat safety briefing.
We hastily jumped into the water at 4.30am in the hope that it wouldn't be as cold as we had feared- this would not last! The freezing water and strong currents were just the start as bodies soon piled over each other. We were shocked at the cascades of churning water from eager swimmers as the field of competitors stretched out.
The metres slowly ticked over as we were quick to realise the shear task we had signed up for. However, we pushed on not wanting to let each other down.
As every limb began to fail, the finish line felt like it was just within reach. As we crossed the line a surge of pride and excitement swept over us. It will be a moment we will never forget and we would strongly encourage many others to take part.
We'd like to thank Mr Ryder and Mr Thomas for organising the event.
