Luke Olver (above with GJAH), an Old Radleian who left H Social in 2014, returned to give a Talk in the Coffee Shop on the afternoon of Thursday, 10th September. Luke spoke on the topic of 'The Indian Poverty Problem’, having just returned from a Raleigh International charity placement in the Indian province of Karnataka.
Luke focused on the two issues of the lack of opportunities for women in India (India, shockingly, has the highest number of child brides in the world and only 54% of females are literate) and Water and Sanitation. He looked at possible solutions to these problems, including the role of the ‘Educate Girls’ Campaign.
This fascinating talk was particularly aimed at Radleians considering a constructive and challenging project for a Gap Year. Indeed Luke encouraged 6.1s and 6.2s present to consider such a Raleigh challenge.
