J Social

J Social, along with K next door, is the youngest of the Radley Socials and as a purpose built boarding house is perfectly situated to cater for the diverse interests of its 70 boys: close to the majority of the academic departments, the Theatre and Music school complex and with CCF, the rowing tank and hard tennis courts just outside our back door we are right at the heart of everything that Radley has to offer.

With cocoa on every night of the week, including Trish's legendary cheese toastie Sunday evenings, the focus is very much on integration between the year groups, and with Tutor, Sub tutor and Pastoral House Mistress living on site with their children, the feel is one of a close-knit family of 80! The aim is for each boy to feel happy and confident enough to shine in whatever field he may choose independently as well as aware of the value of interacting within a supportive community.

Olly Langton

Tutor of J Social

I started teaching History at Radley in 2007, having spent two years at Ludgrove Prep School. The inspirational teaching of the legendary Doc Jim Summerly at Radley explains my specialism in the Crusading period, but I also have a particular interest in the Reformation, the Civil Rights movement and the Arab-Israeli conflict.

I am an Old Radleian (G Social, 1994-1999) and took over the running of J Social in September 2013 having been Sub-tutor in A Social between 2007 and 2011. I have been married to Rosie since 2011: we have two children, Alexander and Cleo and an apparently insatiable Labrador called Nelson. Rosie is a freelance Designer and Italian tutor and helps me to run the Social in a way that extends our enjoyment of family life. The Social is home to 70 boys during term time, as well as a playground for Xander all of the time!

Away from the classroom and the Social, I love coaching Under 14 rugby and cricket 1st teams and watching as many concerts and plays as I can get to – the standard that the boys attain is extraordinary and there is rarely a quiet moment at Radley. When away from the school, I run the fixtures and play cricket for I Zingari and love to read, ski, play golf and spend time with friends and family.

Alex Nash

j social sub-tutor

After a brief and enjoyably unsuccessful ‘career’ writing and performing comedy, I became an English teacher in 2009. Having been at Radley since 2015, I have greatly valued the diverse range of activities afforded to both Dons and boys alike. It is very clear that life in Social plays an enormous part in the boys’ success and happiness. As such, being Resident Sub-Tutor for J is a responsibility for which I am very grateful. In my spare moments, I enjoy the usual outdoor pursuits: golf, cricket and running in the main. I can also be found reading, engrossed in a film, or slaving (willingly) over a stove. I am joined usually by my wife Sarah and my son Oscar.
