K Social

K Social is a relatively new Social. Having been conceived as a concept under Warden Morgan and then given the go-ahead under Warden McPhail, the Social was opened in September 2008. The building had originally been the bursar's house (towards the bottom of the main drive) but it then incorporated a purpose-built Social, based on the best features of existing Socials.  Niall Murphy was Tutor for the first seven years and has now joined the Senior Management Team, being replaced by Chris Lee.

K Social boys are encouraged to feel at home in a friendly but disciplined atmosphere within the Social, and to give of their best in all areas, whatever their particular talents. Recent K Social successes have included two Sewell scholars, two honorary academic scholarships, the Simon Molyneux Cup, the Spens Trophy, the Midgets Rugby Cup, J14 rowing medals at the National Schools' Regatta, captains of the 1st XV, 1st XI football and cricket, an army scholarship and commissions in the Scots Guards and the Royal Marines, and places at top Russell Group universities, TCD, Yale and Oxford.

Matt Glendon-Doyle

tutor of k social

Before becoming Tutor of K Social in September 2018, I was Resident Sub-Tutor of E Social for three years, in which I was a Shell Form Master. Having read Classics at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, I spent seven years in investment banking before choosing a vocation in teaching. Following two terms at Wanganui Collegiate School in New Zealand and two years at Canford School, we arrived at Radley in 2014. As a teacher of Classics, I am particularly interested in the rises and falls of the Roman and Athenian empires, as well as the works of Ovid. I coach Junior Colts Rugby, Midgets Hockey and Seniors Cricket. I have overseen Catholic boys at the college and have been Master in Charge of Charities. In addition, I have been involved in DofE, Community Partnerships and the stock investor society. My wife Rosie, an English teacher and a keen artist, recently taught at St. Edward’s, Oxford, and we have a two-year old daughter. We enjoy long walks in south Wales and north Norfolk.

Charlie McKegney

After graduating from Loughborough University I taught for 6 years at Cheltenham College and now I join Radley in the Design & Technology Dept and as Resident Sub-Tutor of K Social - along with my fiance Kelly. Outside of the workshop, I am a keen sportsman and back in the day I was lucky enough to be apart of the Queensland Reds Rugby Academy and Somerset Cricket set up to U17 level. I now coach the Midget 1 Rugby and Colts 1 Cricket sides and seeing the boys in this light is a real pleasure. In my spare time, I enjoy getting creative in the kitchen honing my culinary skills and playing all manor of sports from golf to real tennis.

Rene Themistocleous

K social pastoral housemistress

Rene Themistocleous joins Radley as K Social Pastoral House Mistress this September and she made a warm impression with everyone that she met during a three-day stay with us last year. Originally from Zimbabwe, Rene has been a friend of the College for some time, and, more recently she has worked as a carer in Henley-on-Thames. Rene also has three grown up sons who, it seems, thrived in very similar surroundings to Radley during their youth!
