For some years a number of ORs had been getting together to make up an Old Radleian entry to race for the Arrow Trophy in Jeneau Sunfast 36s at Cowes. As the crew, which consisted of much the same faces every year, got older and more decrepit we began to wonder why we did not have younger, stronger and more active ORs to carry the flag. One of the reasons was perceived that the expense of contributing to the charter fees, race fees, insurance etc was unattractive to people of undergraduate age. Accordingly the Association was founded in April 1999 and now each year organises or participates in a number of racing, cruising and social events. The launch of the Association has undoubtedly been a success. Not only have old friendships been reforged and new friendships made but, it seems that wherever we go, unwittingly or otherwise, we discover ORs both on and off the water.
