Philly (who was brought up at Radley and who loved the music of the College close harmony group - The Radley Clerkes) was unable to take up her place as Organ Scholar at Oriel because of her double primary cancer. The Radley Clerkes was founded in 1985 by Bruce Russell whilst Robert Gower was Precentor. Peter Gritton arrived at Radley in 1987, when Bruce had left to become a King's singer, and the close harmony group evolved during the next six years under his direction. Peter's vision and energy were key to the success of the group and this CD is only possible because of his arrangements which inspired generations of musicians at Radley.

Fifteen Clerkes feature in this live recording of a concert in May 2003; their time at Radley stretched from 1986 to 1999, so this is the first time they have sung together as a larger group. Their enjoyment of performing the Gritton repertoire at the Philly Gower memorial concert has brought them together to produce this CD which will awaken the memories of the Clerkes' era in the 80s and 90s. We hope you enjoy this collection.
