| INTRODUCTION The Careers Department offers a series of events throughout the five years at Radley... see aims of the department Careers Seminars are held during the year with relevant professionals to give the boys an opportunity to discuss specific career areas. Visits, courses and practical advice are also available on almost every aspect of future career development. In the Michaelmas Term of VI.2 the Interview Techniques Course provides an introduction to completing forms, compiling a CV and preparing for interview. As part of the course each boy is given a practice interview, the aim of which is to develop general interview techniques. This is designed to complement the subject specific mock university interviews which are arranged by academic departments. The majority of boys opt to be interviewed on camera by a visiting company (DUO) which has considerable experience in this field, whilst the remainder are interviewed by a Radley parent, Old Radleian or local professional. As part of ISCO membership the Vth form sit the Morrisby Psychometric Test. In the Summer Term we hold the VI.1 Choices Conference. The aim of this is to raise awareness of the choices faced on leaving Radley, and in the years immediately following. The three main elements of the Choices Conference are the Radleian Society, Gap year planning and careers choice. The Careers Centre is based in, and operates as part of, The Library. It stocks a great number of books, magazines, and prospectuses on careers, Gap years and universities, as well as DVDs and materials on study skills, decision making, self-awareness, CV completion and interview skills. It is also the venue for the Careers Surgery, which all boys are encouraged to attend. |
