| In the Removes and Fifths the Mathematics Department runs eight Mathematics sets. The extra set allows us to cater more specifically for an individual boy’s needs as far as time and level of entry for public examinations are concerned. Thus it should be noted that if, for example, a boy moves from set 5 in the Shells to set 6 in the Removes, he has not actually dropped a set. Set 1 in the Removes will take IGCSE (higher) in November. Sets 2 to 5 cover a common accelerated course until Christmas when, as a result of further common examining, a group of three or four sets is selected to target IGCSE in the Summer of the Remove year. The remaining boys in sets 5 to 8 target IGCSE at the end of the Fifth Form. There is further testing and resetting at the end of the Remove year.
In the Fifth Form all higher sets sit at least one AS module. In fact, given the very accelerated entry for IGCSE of set 1, these boys may take up to three early AS modules. Sets 5-8 aim for IGCSE (higher) at the end of the Fifth Form.
