JOB TITLE: Library Manager

The Library

The Library contains resources in all formats suitable for all ages and interests. We encourage the use of any resource if it can be used to push pupils beyond the existing boundaries of their intellectual or cultural education.

Library management systems are fully automated using Oliver from Softlink Europe. There is a distributed database available throughout the school over the intranet. A key part of the Library’s role within Radley is its overview of the school’s organisation. As part of this members of the Department manage and develop the intranet and the Archives and edit The Radleian.

The Library is open during term-time from 8.30am-10.00pm weekdays, 8.30am-1.00pm Saturday and 1.00pm-6.00pm Sundays. It is not open to users during school holidays but on occasions the library staff need to complete items which cannot be tackled during school term. All members of the department work a flexible rota to cover these opening times.

Radley Library staff participate in professional organisation such as local and national CILIP groups, Oxfordshire Schools Library Association and the HMC Rugby Group. They serve on school committees and working parties, such as ICT and Independent Learning. Library staff also play an active part in the extracurricular life of the school.

In addition to the specified duties of each post, all members of the department are expected to assist with any task at any time. There is much encouragement to learn new skills and to develop or innovate aspects of the Library.
