For entry to Radley in September 2010

A small number of places (around 20) will be reserved each September for the Warden’s List. This is a method of entry for boys who are not offered a place from our waiting lists or who are too late to register at all.

  1. Candidates must be of at least good (60-65%) Common Entrance standard academically and have qualities which will enrich the life of the school in fields such as drama, games, music and art. They should be inquisitive and self-motivated, eager in their response to new opportunities.

  2. Nominations (a letter including name and date of birth of the candidate, names and address of his parents and a full report) should be made by the prep school heads (not parents) direct to the Warden (not through the Social Tutor).

  3. Nominations should be sent between June 1st 2008 and October 12th 2008. Prep School Heads are encouraged to submit nominations as early as possible during that period.

  4. Boys must be under 14 on 31st of August of the year of entry.

  5. After nomination, the candidates will be invited to Radley, in groups, for a formal visit; parents will have an opportunity to take part in a group Question and Answer session with the Warden and the Senior Masters. These group visits will take place on specific dates during the Michaelmas Term 2008. Parents will be notified of these dates at the time of nomination.

  6. Selection will be at the Warden’s discretion on the basis of performance at the formal visit and the head’s report. Decisions on all candidates will be made by December 2008.

  7. Candidates offered places on the Warden’s List will be expected to put Radley as their first choice school and pay the normal Final Acceptance Fee.

  8. Those who are not already registered are expected to submit a registration form and fee, once they are offered a place.

  9. Boys gaining a place on the Warden’s List may also enter for a Scholarship (Academic, Music, Art, Drama or All-rounder) at the appropriate time. Scholarship awards may be supplemented by means tested bursaries.

  10. Parents of prospective candidates may, if they wish, visit for a meeting with a Senior Master and an informal tour with one of the boys; these can be arranged on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

  11. Socials will be allocated by the Warden to achieve a balanced spread of boys’ talents. Parents may discuss the choice of each Social with the Warden who will take any preferences they make into account but they and prep school heads are asked not to approach Social Tutors direct.
