We are making great efforts to reduce the amount of rubbish that we send to land fill and are recycling as much as possible.

Within the Socials this is being done on a daily basis. Each boy is responsible for putting as much of his recyclable waste (cans, paper, plastic, cardboard, glass) into the appropriate bins around the Social. Every Social has a team of helpers that bring all the items to the collection point, from where it is picked up (and amounts recorded) by the housekeeping department. The volume of waste recycled by Socials is collated through the year and the competition to see which Social collects the most ends at Easter.

The scheme only started towards the end of the Summer term 2006, but is now recycling enough 'rubbish' to fill 24 conventional dustbins each week. This only includes the boys own rubbish, additional to this are the vast amounts now recycled from catering, shop and the JCR.

The total volume collected for 2006/2007 was 2973 boxes, enough to fill 596 dustbins. The total for 2007/2008 so far is 1595 boxes.
