The Mansion 's rooms are available for letting for private functions. It is only available for let during the school holidays and functions must be over by 9pm. See term dates Radley Hall (the Mansion) was built for Sir John Stonehouse in 1721-1725 by William Townesend, the leading master-mason of Oxford. Townesend’s other works include Peckwater quadrangle at Christ Church and he was involved in virtually every significant building project in the university, often working alongside Hawksmoor. In 1771-2, Sir William Stonehouse paid Capability Brown £672 for landscaping the grounds. In 1847 William Sewell and Robert Singleton applied for a lease on the house, and St. Peter’s College, Radley, was founded. - more |
