This poem was inspired by Stephen’s work when Paddy Drysdale came to the private view of this exhibition.
The Juxtaposition of Opposites
On sculptures in stone by Stephen Fox
Limestone grey, Carrara white,
both carved and polished bright
and brought together in a single shape,
yet scarred across the joint
with broad and jagged arcs
to link the disparate as one.
An alien, metamorphic presence
is thus combined with native stone,
asylum for an immigrant.
So Yin unites with Yang,
inanimate is energised,
dichotomies are reconciled
and harmony is made
where discord might have been.
