Handwriting Policy

Use of a Word Processor

  • We strongly believe that boys are disadvantaged if they do not develop the skills of handwriting, and we expect boys to practise that skill in the course of the Shell year where handwriting remains the normal method of working in class and prep. A decision is made at the end of the Shell year regarding a boy's means of writing for future public examinations. A word processor may be considered as an alternative 'to the use of transcript', as stated in the JCQ regulations.
  • These regulations, which govern access arrangements for GCSE and A level, say that centres are allowed to provide a word processor to a candidate where it is their normal way of working within the centre, at the centre's discretion.
  • If it is decided that a boy's needs require the use of a word processor in examinations, this will be his normal way of working from the beginning of the Remove year
