Four pairs of Radley croqueters (including one last-minute reserve), fuelled with a Radley-packed breakfast, travelled to Surbiton Croquet Club in South-West London for the National Schools Competition. Facing opponents from Eton, Abingdon, Brighton, and Winchester in the Doubles Championship, Patrick (6.2,E – Radley’s Croquet Vice-Captain) and Jimmy (6.1,L) eventually came out on top, with the duo of Felix (6.1,D – Captain) and Douglas (6.1,L) coming second – the other two pairs reached the semi-finals and quarter-finals respectively.

Harry Crump (Co-Curricular Deputy Head) writes, “It was a great day of croquet, much-enjoyed by all 38 players, and we are hugely grateful to the tournament organiser Dr Taylor (Eton ‘beak’ [don], and Surbiton member) and all those at Surbiton who took so long to set up the lawns, and to host us for a wonderful event.”
