The new Music School has been bustling, with last week’s music festival classes and contests showcasing the brightest and best of Radley’s musical talents.
First came the Gunn Cup Prize for Woodwind, which saw 50 woodwind soloists play everything from Mozart to the opening of Shrek throughout the afternoon’s six festival classes, culminating in a Silk Hall final adjudicated by famed bassoonist Chris Rawley. Jerome (6.1, B) on clarinet, Jasper (R, H) on saxophone, and Joe (V, J) on flute won first, second and third place respectively.
The biennial Hudson Prize brought the focus to string instruments, involving 34 boys in another six afternoon festival classes. As guest-adjudicated by Rafael Lopez Bolivar, critically acclaimed violinist from the Royal Music Schools of Madrid and London, Yimo (R, K) on violin, Adrian (V, D) on violin, and Merlin (6.1, D) on cello won first, second and third place in the subsequent competition class.
