On Friday, eight Radley 6.1s attended the inaugural Marlborough Model UN, representing France.

Will (6.1, E) writes, “We arrived at Marlborough bright and early at nine, being sent straight into the General Assembly where we were given a speech by Sir Malcolm Rifkind, the former Foreign Secretary, on unity. After this, we broke into our committees, discussing issues ranging from Arms deals to Zambia healthcare… in some, the proceedings were cordial, whereas in others, the discussion was more heated.

“We then broke for lunch, providing us with a great opportunity to check in with the others from the Radley delegation. After Lunch, we reconvened into Committees to submit our Resolutions to the General Assembly and process any amendments. In my committee, on Pandemic Prevention, we decided how the world should approach the issue… the Resolution that passed was one of unity, which acted to help out less developed nations.

“Once we rejoined the rest of the Delegation in the General Assembly, we heard final statements from interested countries, including a defiant last stand from France… both Ben (6.1, B) and I were awarded third place medals in our respective committees, and the delegation as a whole won third overall.

“The entire day was a tremendous success and has helped us in honing our diplomatic and public speaking skills.”
