On Tuesday 2nd December, RadSoc welcomed around 70 Old Radleians under 30, along with a number of dons, to this year’s Young OR Christmas Drinks at The Other House in South Kensington.
The venue is always a riot of maximalist interior design, but at Christmas it becomes something altogether more enchanting, complete with gleaming oversized baubles, lavish garlands, and even a small Santa’s Grotto in the Library Room, guarded by a life-sized reindeer. You certainly know when you’ve arrived …
Despite the heavy rain, ORs arrived in high spirits (if slightly damp around the edges). We were delighted to see some OR ties among the festive outfits! The room quickly filled with the sound of old friends catching up, swapping university stories, and comparing notes on the first steps of their professional journeys. Many were also eager to hear the latest news from the College from the assembled dons.
During the evening, Radleian Society President Richard Greed introduced our new Radleian Society Manager, Vics McClelland, who received a warm welcome. She spoke about the many ways RadSoc supports young ORs – from growing professional networks and running specialist business events in sectors such as law, fintech, and sustainable energy, to coordinating a thriving array of OR sports clubs. Vics also encouraged those gathered to consider how they might support the community themselves, whether by sharing insights on university life, mentoring recent leavers, becoming a uni rep, or speaking at future events.
It was a joy to see the room buzzing throughout the night, with young ORs rekindling friendships, forging new connections, and stepping fully into the festive season.
