The Sewell Centre Gallery was opened in Spring 2014 by Sandy Nairne CBE, former Director of the National Portrait Gallery. The stunning, purpose built gallery is a well known exhibiting space in Oxfordshire and further afield, hosting six contemporary art shows a year. All shows are open to the public.

In recent years, the gallery has exhibited work by Tracey Emin, Bridget Riley, Eduardo Paolozzi, Patrick Heron, Peter Lanyon and Alan Davie. Most importantly, the gallery is a valuable educational resource, ensuring the founding principle of aesthetic beauty remains at the heart of Radley life.

Beautiful art has an important place in the world - it lifts us up and inspires us; however, art should also challenge us to engage with important and sometimes difficult issues.

Amanda Jewell, Curator of the Sewell Centre Gallery

Current Exhibition

Drinking Down the Light
Cassandra Wall
curated by Jenny Blyth

Private View: September 5th, 6pm-8pm
The exhibition will run from 5 September – 25 September 2025

Cassandra Wall’s textile paintings are hand-stitched patchwork in cotton, colour-matched to her subject. Whilst acknowledging the origins of patchwork born out of thrift in 19th century America, she draws inspiration from Twentieth Century painters such as Agnes Martin and from Bauhaus pioneer of textile art and design, Anni Albers. Her artistic intention is firmly founded in her long standing Buddhist intention.
